In the second edition of the Dubai World Championship - in a larger-than-life city that has captured imaginations far and wide - the best in the sport will go head-to-head over four days to claim one of golf’s most prestigious prizes.

With US $7.5 million in prize money, the tournament is the richest on The European Tour, while those finishing in the top 15 on The Race to Dubai will also split the US $7.5 million Bonus Pool.

Over four days, with no cut, all 60 players will compete for the title that has captured the imagination of the leading players in the world game.

The players will tee off on the spectacular Earth course. Designed by Greg Norman, Earth is one of two courses, along with Fire, that anchor the neighbourhoods in Jumeirah Golf Estates.

With millions of golf fans around the world watching, both on television and on the course, the 2009 Dubai World Championship shifted the epicentre of golf towards Dubai — and was one of the most memorable sporting events of the year.

The WGC HSBC Champions Live takes place at the Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, China from the 4th to the 7th November, 2010. The tournament has been contested at the same venue since 2005, but from this year onwards it has been designated a World Golf Championship event. With this honour the tournament has become one of only four in the world that has WGC status, the others being the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the WGC-CA Championship and the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

With a total purse of just over $7million, this event is an invitational and is made up of the mandatory 72 holes, split into four rounds of stroke play golf, and there is no cut. The winner will receive over $800,000 in prize money and from its inception in 2005 the class of field has improved beyond recognition, with all, the world’s top players vying for an “invite” to the tournament.

To qualify, players must be ranked within the top fifty of the official world golf rankings, as well as players that have won at least one tournament title in a sanctioned tour. Last year’s contest went to a play-off between Sergio Garcia of Spain and Oliver Wilson of England, with the Spaniard coming out on top. He finished with a score of 274, at 14 under par. The previous three winners of the tournament have been Phil Mickelson in 2007, Yang Yong-eun in 2006, and David Howell in the inception year of 2005.
